Global Critical Care & Flight Medicine Provider Course
Advanced Critical Care Education. Global Accessibility. Real-World Application.
The Global Critical Care Transport & Flight Medicine Provider Course is a comprehensive, internationally accessible educational program designed for paramedics, nurses, and other healthcare professionals seeking to expand their knowledge and capabilities in critical care transport, aeromedical medicine, and advanced prehospital care.
Delivered through an innovative nine-week hybrid learning model, the program combines eight weeks of live, synchronous virtual instruction followed by one week of intensive, in-residence training at locations around the globe. This approach makes advanced critical care education accessible to healthcare professionals worldwide while providing opportunities for hands-on clinical training and international professional collaboration.
Developed with an emphasis on evidence-based medicine and practical clinical decision-making, the course prepares participants to manage complex, critically ill, and injured patients across diverse operational environments, including ground and air medical transport, rural and remote healthcare systems, and resource-limited settings.
Course Structure
Weeks 1–8: Live Virtual Instruction
Participants complete eight weeks of instructor-led, synchronous online education featuring interactive lectures, clinical case discussions, evidence-based readings, and structured learning activities. Live sessions allow participants to engage directly with instructors and healthcare professionals from around the world while developing the theoretical foundations of advanced critical care transport.
Week 9: International In-Residence Training
The program culminates in a one-week, in-person training experience hosted at selected locations across the globe. This intensive practical component emphasizes hands-on clinical skills, scenario-based learning, patient assessment, advanced resuscitation, and critical care transport decision-making.
By hosting in-residence sessions in different countries, Backcountry Training seeks to reduce geographic barriers to specialized education and strengthen the global critical care transport community.
Core Areas of Instruction
Advanced airway management and mechanical ventilation
Cardiovascular emergencies, hemodynamics, and shock
Trauma resuscitation and damage control principles
Critical care pharmacology and medication administration
Advanced patient assessment and clinical decision-making
Neurological, respiratory, and metabolic emergencies
Aeromedical physiology and flight-related clinical considerations
Critical care monitoring and interpretation
Pediatric and neonatal critical care considerations
Prolonged care and resource-limited patient management
Interfacility transport and clinical stabilization
Clinical simulation and critical care transport scenarios
Designed for a Global Audience
The program welcomes paramedics, registered nurses, and other qualified healthcare professionals involved in emergency medicine, critical care, and medical transport.
The curriculum is particularly valuable for professionals working in air ambulance services, critical care transport teams, emergency medical services, emergency departments, military and humanitarian medicine, and remote or resource-limited healthcare systems.
Instruction is delivered in English, with opportunities for language support and international collaboration.
Professional Development & Certification Preparation
In addition to advancing clinical knowledge and practical capabilities, the course supports preparation for three internationally recognized critical care transport certifications:
FP-C — Certified Flight Paramedic: Administered by the International Board of Specialty Certification (IBSC).
CCP-C — Certified Critical Care Paramedic: Administered by the International Board of Specialty Certification (IBSC).
CFRN — Certified Flight Registered Nurse: Administered by the Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing (BCEN).
The curriculum integrates overlapping knowledge domains relevant to these examinations, allowing paramedics and nurses to pursue professional development through a shared, interdisciplinary educational experience.
